Windows 7 Media Center review
We've been waiting a long time for this and it's finally here, the latest version of Windows Media Center. Well, we really stopped waiting a few months ago when the release candidate hit, but waited on composing our thoughts until after we had a chance to play with the RTM copy. For the most part, as you'd expect the RTM build is identical to the RC, sans the bugs, but there are plenty of upgrades over Vista Media Center. Many of these new features were also in the TV Pack, but in our book that doesn't count. For starters it was OEM only, and thus you could only get it (legitimately) by buying a new PC, but the real reason is because it was so buggy, it was beyond usable. In fact we still stand by the theory that the TV Pack was nothing more than an early preview for OEMs of the new guts of Windows 7 Media Center. Gladly that is all behind us now, so keep reading to find out what gets us excited about Windows 7 Media Center.

Unlock Motorola V3 RAZR and go to the Moon!
Lot’s of forum talks, lot’s of articles on Motorola internals, but none seemed to work 100%, and rather worked 97%. There was still this 3% that kept Motorola V3 RAZR owners from unlocking the phone… Here are tested, and proved to complete all 100%, steps that will let you unlock your Moty.
First, let’s get ready. All the tools that you can download below are MS Windows based (if you are using different OS, like Mac or, like me - Ubuntu, you can install MS Windows in a virtual box).
Ok, so assuming you are using MS Windows, these are the tools you will need to use:
- “p2k drivers 2.9” - This is a set of drivers that will enable your PC/Laptop and RAZR V3 to communicate.
- “scotty2_8.26_downgrader_v2” - this is the tool written by scotty2 which downgrades your phone’s bootloader from (8.26, 8.23, 7.E0) to 7.D0, which is needed for the next tool to unlock it.
- “P2K_Easy_Tool_v37” - this is an actual “unlocker” tool.
- MiniUSB to USB cable in order to connect your RAZR V3 to PC/Laptop.

Nerd Vittles » Introducing the Orgasmatron V, Google Voice Edition
It's been an interesting couple of weeks watching many of our readers flock to Google Voice in order to make free calls in the U.S. and Canada. The only problem with our Google Voice solution was the skill set required to get everything humming along as it should. For those new to the Asterisk world, it only made sense to create a special installer that would build an Instant PBX."

How do I factory reset a Linksys (Sipura) SPA?
To return the Linksys (Sipura) SPA to an unconfigured state:
- Pick up the handset attached to your SPA device. You may or may not hear the dialtone.
- Dial ****73738#
- Dial 1# to confirm.
- Hang up.
It is possible for service providers to restrict access to this feature. If you are using a SPA that has been provisioned by a provider, you may need the assistance of the service provider in order to perform this action.

Nerd Vittles
Now that the Asterisk and Google Voice marriage is finally underway, we wanted to step back today and revise the original methodology a bit to take advantage of some of the terrific comments which were offered in response to our last article. First, the good news. U.S. calls through Google Voice using Asterisk work! They sound great, and they're free. The not so good news was that the MeetMe conferencing trick to join your outbound call with the Google Voice click-to-dial return call from your destination worked great so long as a real person answered the phone. But, if an answering machine picked up or no one answered the call at all, there were problems because these calls already had been transferred to the MeetMe conference and there was no simple way to disconnect them. And the need for two DIDs to support a single Google Voice interface just seemed a bit wasteful.

Nerd Vittles » Tweaking Asterisk for Free Google Voice Calling
To get everything working today, there are six steps:
(1) obtaining and configuring a DID to manage calls between Google Voice and Asterisk,
(2) configuring a Google Voice forwarding number for this DID to manage your outbound and inbound calls,
(3) configuring FreePBX to route all outbound calls with a GV prefix to your special Google Voice dialplan context,
(4) configuring an inbound route to manage incoming calls from your Google Voice number,
(5) setting up a series of Parked Call extensions, one of which will be used to manage your outbound Google Voice calls, and
(6) running our install script which adds the dialplan code for Google Voice calling with your credentials and puts the Python application into place on your server.

Minimal CD Image - Community Ubuntu Documentation
The Minimal CD downloads packages from online archives at installation time instead of providing them on the install CD itself. Downloading packages at install time reduces the size of the install CD to approximately 5 to 20MB depending on architecture (see below), as well as providing only the packages needed for installation. The download time savings achieved by using a Minimal CD can be significant, as only current packages are downloaded, so there is no need to upgrade packages immediately after installation. The Minimal CD uses a text-based installer like the Alternate CD, making the CD image as compact as possible.
TestDisk - CGSecurity
TestDisk is a powerful free data recovery software! It was primarily designed to help recover lost partitions and/or make non-booting disks bootable again when these symptoms are caused by faulty software, certain types of viruses or human error (such as accidentally deleting a Partition Table). Partition table recovery using TestDisk is really easy.
TestDisk can
- Fix partition table, recover deleted partition
- Recover FAT32 boot sector from its backup
- Rebuild FAT12/FAT16/FAT32 boot sector
- Fix FAT tables
- Rebuild NTFS boot sector
- Recover NTFS boot sector from its backup
- Fix MFT using MFT mirror
- Locate ext2/ext3 Backup SuperBlock
- Undelete files from FAT, NTFS and ext2 filesystem
- Copy files from deleted FAT, NTFS and ext2/ext3 partitions.
TestDisk has features for both novices and experts. For those who know little or nothing about data recovery techniques, TestDisk can be used to collect detailed information about a non-booting drive which can then be sent to a tech for further analysis. Those more familiar with such procedures should find TestDisk a handy tool in performing onsite recovery.
